The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has announced a public holiday across the province to mark the start of the new Islamic year. The Chief Secretary stated in the notification that the holiday on the first of Muharram is dependent on the sighting of the moon.
A meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, led by Maulana Muhammad Abdul Khabir, is scheduled for July 6 to observe the moon for Muharram al-Haram, which will determine the start of the new Islamic year.

Furthermore, zonal committees will meet at their respective headquarters to assist in this determination. The Chairman of the Ravi Hilal Committee will then officially announce the beginning of the new Islamic year.
Meanwhile, both federal and provincial governments have implemented special security measures to maintain law and order during Muharram.
