Govt announces ‘Laptop for All’ scheme

The federal government announced on Thursday the introduction of the “Laptop for All” scheme for students in Pakistan, set to launch next year.

Rana Mashhood, the chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Program (PMYP), announced the “Laptop for All” scheme during a press conference. Under this initiative, students will be able to obtain laptops through interest-free loans from banks.

“The government was making efforts to provide free-of-interest laptops to students from banks on which decision would be taken within two or three days,” the PMYP chairman said.

The PMYP chairman explained that despite the interim government’s financial challenges and existing IMF conditions, the “Laptops for All” scheme will be included in the next fiscal budget.

He added that last year, due to the transition from the interim government to the current government and the limited time available to finalize the budget, laptops were not provided to students.
