After a deep depression intensified in the Arabian Sea near Sindh, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning for fishermen and sailors to avoid venturing into the sea until Sunday.
The PMD cautioned that the depression could develop into a cyclonic storm, potentially leading to flooding in cities and flash floods in hilly areas in the coming days. Heavy rains and stormy winds have already impacted several districts across the country.
According to the warning, fishermen in Sindh should stay out of the sea until August 31, while those in Balochistan should refrain until September 1 due to the risk of rough seas.
The PMD forecasted intermittent heavy downpours for Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, and other districts in Sindh until August 31. Similarly, Hub, Lasbela, Awaran, Kech, and Gwadar are expected to experience heavy showers through Sunday.
In its third alert for the tropical cyclone, the Met Office reported that the deep depression was located near India’s Rann of Kutch and adjacent areas. The system has been moving slowly west and southwest over the past 12 hours.
Currently, the system is positioned about 200 kilometres east and southeast of Karachi. It is anticipated to continue moving west and southwest, potentially entering the Arabian Sea and the adjoining Indus coastline by this evening.
The PMD also noted that the system is causing severe sea conditions, with winds already blowing at 50 to 60 km/h and gusts reaching up to 70 km/h.
