Azhar Mahmood announces legal action against ‘false allegations’

Pakistan men’s assistant coach Azhar Mahmood has vehemently denied allegations of financial misconduct during Pakistan’s recent disappointing T20 World Cup 2024 campaign.

Reports had surfaced claiming that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had funded trips for players, their families, and support staff to the USA, allegations Mahmood labeled as completely false and without merit.

In a strongly-worded statement, Mahmood expressed his dismay at these baseless accusations circulating on social media and other platforms. He stated that such rumours, lacking any factual basis, are not only distressing but also harmful.

Mahmood declared his intention to pursue legal action against those responsible for spreading these unfounded claims.

“Pursuing an increase in followers and media attention by spreading falsehoods is downright unacceptable. I will be pursuing legal advice against those responsible for making these false allegations towards me and my family, and strict action will be taken accordingly. We will not be discussing this matter further on social media,” Mahmood wrote.

Mahmood urged the public to refrain from engaging with or perpetuating these misleading narratives, asserting that legal steps would be taken to address the matter thoroughly and uphold truth and accountability.

This controversy comes amidst earlier reports suggesting that Pakistan skipper Babar Azam may also take legal action against former cricketers and social media figures who allegedly made derogatory remarks about his leadership and conduct during the T20 World Cup.
