WEB DESK: In the aftermath of PTI founder Imran Khan and his spouse Bushra Bibi’s conviction in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case, the party has constituted a 12-member committee to address human rights concerns internationally.

The committee has the work to highlight instances of allegedly committed human rights violations and political victimization of offenders in Pakistan.
Background on the legal battles of Khan
The 71-year-old cricketer-turned-politician has been imprisoned since August 2024 after being sentenced in the Toshakhana case, one among many. This is related to his removal from power in April 2022. PTI has continuously stated regarding the case that these legal actions against him are politically motivated and a violation of democracy.
To observe Khan’s trials recently, his legal team brought on board the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), a global parliamentary body. Khalid Yousuf Chaudhry, Khan’s attorney, disclosed that the IPU appointee did receive a briefing on legal irregularities, including flaws in the Toshakhana and £190 million cases, where it had on earlier occasions asked for permission to send an observer to Adiala Jail but was denied access.
