ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will chair the meeting of the Apex Committee on the National Action Plan (NAP) at the PM House on Monday (tomorrow).
The participants will review the law and order situation, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan in the meeting.
Among those present will include Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, ISI DG, heads of other intelligence agencies, civil-military leadership including the Defence and Interior Ministers, other respective members of the cabinet, provincial chief ministers and services chiefs.
On the agenda will be a comparison of the actual implementation of the National Action Plan as well as the ways of improving the federal and provincial governments’ interaction.
Enhanced mechanisms for the sharing of intelligence will also be looked at.
In addition, those present will be given an overview of the ongoing counter-terrorism and law-and-order strategies and their effectiveness with particular emphasis on the rising cases of terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan and the results of the intelligence-led operations.
In addition to this, the Apex Committee is expected to look back to the larger national security context and will consider the measures taken up towards countering terrorism.
Key steps to enhance the inclusive internal security framework and progress the present course of action on the counter-terrorism strategy are expected.
The committee will also look into the accomplishments under “Operation Azm-e-Istehkam” a counter-terrorism campaign that brought all stakeholders together including the provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
