Pakistan’s first multi-mission satellite, PAKSAT-MM1, is now fully operational after successfully completing its testing phase. The satellite marks a major step forward in the country’s space and digital sectors.

Speaking at the PAKSAT-MM1 Satellite Application Conference on Wednesday, Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, highlighted the government’s efforts to use space technologies for the nation’s progress.

She stated, “The success of PAKSAT-MM1 will transform our communication systems, bringing benefits to all sectors, especially in remote areas.”

Khawaja emphasized the importance of digital connectivity, saying, “Digitalisation is key to economic growth,” and noted that Pakistan’s ranking in the UN’s e-governance development index has risen by 14 points, placing the country in the high tier of digital governance in Asia.

Chairman of SUPARCO, Muhammad Yousuf Khan, praised the satellite’s role in boosting Pakistan’s position in the global space industry. He added that PAKSAT-MM1 will provide services like internet, tele-education, and tele-medicine to underserved areas.

The satellite, which will be operational for over 15 years, is expected to play a key role in improving internet access and digital services across the country. Government officials and industry experts celebrated its successful launch, seeing it as a crucial step toward a digitally connected Pakistan.
