Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch announced on Thursday that Pakistan has extended an invitation to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) heads of government meeting in Islamabad.

The SCO meeting is scheduled for October 15-16, and will be preceded by a ministerial meeting and several rounds of discussions among senior officials on issues including financial, economic, socio-cultural, and humanitarian cooperation among member states.

During a weekly press briefing, Baloch confirmed that invitations have been sent to the heads of state of SCO member countries. She specifically mentioned that an invitation has also been issued to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Some countries have already confirmed their participation, though details on which countries will attend will be provided later.

Regarding Pakistan-India relations, Baloch noted that Pakistan currently does not engage in direct bilateral trade with India.
