The Local Government Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has revealed that 90 per cent of the province’s housing societies are illegal or unregistered.

According to the report, 60 per cent of the societies were found illegal, while 30 per cent were unregistered. Only 10 per cent of the 822 housing societies in the province, equating to 80, are legally registered.

Furthermore, the report highlights that Dera Ismail Khan has 254 housing societies, the highest in the province, followed by Peshawar with 247. The department has urged the public to verify societies on its website before investing.
