By WEB DESK: YouTube Music’s latest feature, hum-to-search, helps users identify forgotten tunes by humming or singing.
How the Feature Works
According to media reports, this functionality allows users to identify songs simply by humming, singing, or reproducing the melody. Initially trialed as an experiment on YouTube, it is now being gradually introduced to YouTube Music users on Android devices.
Accessing the Hum-to-Search Feature
To access the hum-to-search feature, users can tap the magnifying glass search icon in the top-right corner of the YouTube Music app. Alongside the existing microphone icon for voice search, a new waveform icon appears. Tapping this icon directs users to a vibrant search page prompting them to “Play, sing, or hum a song.” Google’s AI then compares the user’s vocal rendition with YouTube Music’s extensive song library.
Accurate Song Identification
More often than not, the feature successfully identifies the sought-after song. It presents users with a comprehensive search result page. Users can then opt to play the song instantly or save it for future listening. Notably, the feature demonstrates efficacy across various languages, including English, Hindi, and potentially others.

Rollout and Availability
While the rollout is currently underway for Android users with app version 7.02, iOS users can expect to join the humming festivities soon. Although not entirely novel to the Google ecosystem, with its initial appearance on Google Search in 2020 and later integration into the main YouTube app last year, its incorporation into YouTube Music is set to revolutionize how users find elusive tunes.
