X tests new video conferencing tool as part of ambitious ‘Everything App’ Plan
X, the social media giant, is testing a new video conferencing tool called ‘X Conference,’ as part of its broader strategy to evolve into an ‘everything app.’
This move, focusing more on the company’s expansion than user needs, positions X Conference as a direct competitor to platforms like Zoom and Google Meet.
Revealed by X employee Chris Park, the tool is in its early stages and currently offers basic multi-person video conferencing capabilities. Despite the initial limitations, X Conference is expected to receive significant updates soon, including features like pinning speakers and enhanced notifications. Park believes these upgrades will make X Conference a strong competitor to established platforms.

Moreover, app researcher Nima Owji recently revealed that X Conference might also include spatial audio and built-in captions.
However, in a market already saturated with video conferencing options, it remains uncertain if these features will be enough to differentiate X Conference or if it will ever be available to the public.
