WEB DESK: A female journalist of Moroccan origin residing in France, Manal Fekihi has challenged French law. This law prohibits female journalists from wearing a headscarf or veil in the photograph on their press card.
According to foreign media, Manal Fekihi stated that her press card application was rejected simply because she submitted her usual photograph, in which her head was covered with a scarf.

She explained that the absence of a press card is hindering her professional activities and responsibilities as a journalist. Without the card, she is unable to cover daily events and protests, risking the termination of her contract as a journalist.
She emphasised the need for acceptance as they are and argued that such restrictions subject women who wear hijabs to discrimination at the very first stage of their professional careers.
In France, rules prevent women from having a passport with a head-covered photo, whereas in the UK and many other European countries, this personal freedom is still respected.
