On Saturday, users across Pakistan reported widespread disruptions affecting popular platforms WhatsApp and Instagram, alongside internet services provided by Zong and PTCL.

According to outage tracking website Downdetector, the issues became apparent mid-morning, impacting users in major cities such as Karachi and Lahore.

Instagram experienced a sharp spike in outage reports, with 86 incidents logged in just one hour. WhatsApp users started encountering problems at around 10:45 AM, particularly struggling to send voice messages.

Furthermore, mobile internet services were disrupted, with many users reporting difficulties accessing the internet.

Ongoing internet challenges and lack of official comment

The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has yet to provide an official statement regarding the outages. However, the PTA had previously cautioned that internet speeds could remain slow until early October due to complications with two major international submarine cables that link Pakistan to the global internet network.

The interruptions underscore the persistent challenges Pakistan faces in maintaining reliable internet connectivity. As digital communication and social media usage grow, such outages have far-reaching implications for both personal and professional activities.
