Veteran actress Hina Khwaja Bayat has publicly criticised the Pakistani government for the ongoing internet disruptions, which have resulted in significantly slower browsing speeds and hindered access to essential services like Google and Meta platforms.

Expressing her frustration on Instagram, Bayat demanded clarity from the authorities regarding the installation of a firewall—a security measure intended to monitor content and network traffic. She questioned the government’s motives, asking, “What does the government fear so much that it needs to shut down the internet, causing irreversible damage to the economy?”

In a strongly worded statement, Bayat remarked, “Not even the enemy can destroy Pakistan like this,” underscoring the severity of the issue. She called on the government and armed forces to recognize the gravity of the situation and to take immediate action to restore full connectivity.

Hina Khwaja Bayat warned that Pakistan’s economy, already under strain, cannot endure further setbacks, with businesses suffering significant losses due to these prolonged internet shutdowns.

Her comments come in the wake of persistent internet disruptions over recent days, which have made it increasingly difficult for users to download data or access online services.

The disruptions have primarily affected cellular networks, leading to slow browsing and interrupted access to popular social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram.

The impact has been particularly harsh on freelancers in Pakistan, with 2.5 million at risk of losing their jobs due to impaired communication with clients and challenges in meeting deadlines.

Many freelancers have turned to social media to voice their concerns, reporting lost clients and missed opportunities due to the ongoing internet issues.
