In a bizarre incident, a family dining at a restaurant in Guadalajara, Mexico, planted cockroaches on their plates in an attempt to avoid paying the bill. The restaurant, Puerto Chale, known for its strict hygiene standards, initially apologised and waived the bill as a goodwill gesture.
The family falsely accused the restaurant of serving food contaminated with cockroaches and refused to pay for their meal. To prevent a public dispute, the restaurant opted not to charge them. However, the deception was quickly uncovered after the family left, as CCTV footage revealed their actions.
The surveillance video clearly showed a woman at the table removing a small container from her bag and using a fork to place cockroaches on the plate. Puerto Chale later shared the footage on Instagram, detailing the fraudulent scheme.

Following the restaurant’s decision to waive the bill, the family had ordered an extensive selection of items from the menu. Puerto Chale reaffirmed their commitment to hygiene, stating, “We always ensure the highest standards in our food to provide the best experience.”
The video went viral, sparking widespread criticism of the scammers on social media. Many users pointed out that without the CCTV evidence, the false claim could have severely damaged the restaurant’s reputation.
