US official offers support to showcase Pakistani content on Netflix

WEB DESK: A high-ranking United States official has extended assistance to facilitate the placement of Pakistani film content on the globally acclaimed over-the-top (OTT) streaming platform Netflix, aiming to foster cultural and people-to-people bonds between the two nations.

According to Geo, the proposition was put forward by California’s Lieutenant Governor, Eleni Kounalakis, who hails from the US state where Netflix is headquartered. This offer surfaced during her meeting with Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US, Masood Khan, held in Los Angeles on Thursday.

If materialised, this initiative stands to significantly enhance the visibility of Pakistani content on a worldwide scale, given Netflix’s expansive audience base. As per Statista, the platform boasted approximately 269 million paid subscribers in the first quarter of 2024.

Governor Kounalakis stressed the United States’ proficiency in technological and labor practices, expressing her willingness to support the reinforcement of bilateral cooperation between the State of California and Pakistan.

Concurrently, Ambassador Khan underscored the nexus between Silicon Valley, the renowned tech hub in California, and Pakistan. He highlighted investments by the Pakistani diaspora in the US and American enterprises in Pakistan’s technology sector, alongside exploring prospects for collaboration in renewable energy.
