Senior journalist Fakhar Durrani said that US President-elect Donald Trump will not interfere in Pakistan’s internal affairs over Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) linking Imran Khan’s release with Trump’s victory.
Durrani, in a talk show on a private TV channel, said there are many instances in our history where Pakistan resisted American pressure due to domestic constraints.
Furthermore, he added that on May 8, DG ISPR clearly demanded an apology from PTI for the May 9 event. “So only the apology itself can reduce the difficulties for former prime minister Imran Khan,” he said.
He further analysed that “if Donald Trump pressurised Pakistan over Khan’s release, Islamabad would respond to Washington that PTI has attacked Pakistan’s military installations considering that it is our internal matter.”
Earlier during a weekly press briefing in Islamabad, Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch dismissed speculations that US President-elect Donald Trump would try to influence or pressurise Pakistan’s internal politics.
