The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued a notification allowing foreign tourists to temporarily import vehicles into Pakistan for up to three months without customs duties.
This initiative aims to facilitate foreign travelers and promote tourism in the country, for the betterment of the socio-economic condition of Pakistan.
Temporary import conditions
Tourists can bring vehicles under a carnet-de-passage or bank guarantee, as per the FBR report. Upon arrival, customs officers at entry points may release the vehicles without requiring duty payments. However, this will only be legitimate when the tourists declare that they will not transfer ownership in Pakistan.

Extension of temporary import period
The FBR also clarified that if a tourist cannot export the vehicle within the initial three-month period, they may apply for an extension.
The request must be submitted to the Collector with jurisdiction before the period ends. If approved, the extension could be granted an additional three months, provided the tourist maintains a valid carnet-de-passage or bank guarantee and agrees not to leave Pakistan during this time.
