WEB DESK: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the appointment of Tony Hemming as the new head curator on a two-year contract. The esteemed Western Australian is set to arrive in Lahore on Wednesday to begin his role.
Hemming’s immediate responsibilities will include preparing pitches for the five ICC World Test Championship matches. Pakistan is scheduled to host Bangladesh for two matches in August and September, followed by three matches against England in October. Additionally, he will oversee pitch preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which Pakistan will host from February 19 to March 9.
Hemming brings nearly four decades of experience to the position, having worked at several iconic cricket grounds in Australia, including Melbourne, Perth, and Tasmania. His expertise extends internationally, with notable stints in Bangladesh, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. From 2007 to 2017, Hemming served as the ICC’s Head Curator in Dubai, where he oversaw pitch preparation at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, a venue used by Pakistan as a home ground from 2009 to 2019.
Hemming succeeds Zahid, who began his career with the PCB as a member of the Chairman Curators Committee in 2001 and was appointed Chief Curator in 2004. Zahid resigned from his role in 2020 but was reappointed by former PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja in 2021.
The PCB is confident that Hemming’s extensive experience and expertise will significantly contribute to the preparation and maintenance of world-class cricket pitches in Pakistan.
