Due to the rising cost of electricity, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved a plan to provide solar panels to people using 50 to 500 units of electricity per month.
She led a meeting with the Energy Department on Monday and gave the go-ahead for the provincial government’s ‘Roshan Gharana Programme.’
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz stated, “The Punjab government will provide solar systems to millions of consumers who use between 50 to 500 units of electricity, covering 90% of the cost while consumers will pay the remaining 10%.”
She explained that beneficiaries would repay the government’s share in easy installments over five years.

“We won’t abandon people in tough times,” she said, expressing hope that after five years, people wouldn’t face the current electricity issues.
A cabinet meeting was called for Tuesday to formally approve the ‘Roshan Gharana’ program. In phase one, the poorest families will receive solar systems through a transparent process.
CM Punjab stated that during winter, the installment of solar panels would be reduced, and only government-supplied panels would be used.
She added, “The balance between government electricity and solar-generated electricity will be set according to users’ needs.”
