The Azad Kashmir government has implemented a new electricity tariff, now billing consumers at Rs3 per unit.
The new tariff follows violent protests and a subsequent agreement between the government and the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC).
The Kashmir government has honored its commitment to affordable electricity by issuing bills at the new rate of Rs3 per unit, with no additional surcharges. Outstanding amounts will be collected in 12 installments.

Under the agreement signed in May, the Azad Kashmir government has implemented a new electricity tariff. The rates are set at Rs3 per unit for the first 100 units, Rs5 per unit for 100-300 units, and Rs6 per unit for consumption above 300 units.
Azad Kashmir experienced violent clashes between police and activists during a widespread wheel-jam and shutter-down strike. The unrest resulted in the death of at least one police officer and several injuries.
