“The constitution cannot be bulldozed at the IMF’s behest”: Barrister Ali Zafar
WEB DESK: PTI Senator Barrister Ali Zafar has firmly stated that the Constitution cannot be bulldozed at the behest of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

During a Senate session on the budget, chaired by Deputy Chairman Sayedal Khan Nasir, Barrister Ali Zafar criticized the proposed budget, calling it a recipe for disaster. He described the budget scheme as mere paperwork and argued that it is impractical to collect such high taxes.

Senator Zafar highlighted that imposing a 40% tax on the budget would halt economic growth. He claimed that such a tax would only benefit a select few who do not require essentials like food or medicine. He stressed that without resolving the political crisis and restoring the mandate, the budget would be ineffective.

He further stated that the budget would devastate the property and construction sectors, as it was crafted amidst chaos. Zafar pointed out that PTI successfully managed the economy during the COVID-19 pandemic and held the Election Commission of Pakistan accountable for the current budget.

Barrister Ali Zafar blamed the Election Commission for the prevailing political instability, alleging that PTI’s symbol and mandate were unfairly taken away.

He questioned the legitimacy of the budget session, noting the absence of senators from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and reiterated that the Constitution cannot be compromised at the IMF’s instructions.
