Pakistani WhatsApp users have encountered significant issues while sharing files using mobile data since Ashura. While those on broadband networks continue to enjoy smooth messaging, users relying on mobile data are experiencing notable disruptions.
The disruption, which has affected people nationwide, prompted many to turn to other social media platforms for answers. Preliminary reports indicate that 3G and 4G users are struggling to share notes, pictures, and documents on WhatsApp.
Despite the ongoing issues over the past few days, no telecom company has issued an update. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) stated that they have not received any formal complaints but are investigating the matter following media coverage. Monitoring services like Downdetector have also registered numerous complaints about the WhatsApp outage.

In addition to WhatsApp, other social applications such as Facebook are also experiencing problems, with users reporting difficulties loading feeds and sending messages.
Earlier, the Punjab government requested the Interior Ministry to shut down social media apps from Muharram 6 to 11 to prevent the spread of hate speech and misinformation. This decision stemmed from concerns about external forces spreading hate content.
However, the Home Department acknowledged that the internet shutdown caused public inconvenience while social media apps continued to disseminate harmful material.
