WEB DESK: WhatsApp is currently testing a new feature that allows Android users to view text versions of voice messages. Previously available on iPhones since May, this feature is now part of the latest update for the WhatsApp beta app (version 2.24.15.5).

The transcription feature supports multiple languages including English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, and Hindi, with more languages expected to follow. Users will need to download an additional language pack to ensure message privacy and security on their devices.

While the feature is yet to launch in Pakistan, its effectiveness with Urdu voice messages remains uncertain. However, given the app’s support for Hindi, users may find some messages transcribed accurately. English transcriptions are likely to be more consistent in most cases.

Although WhatsApp has not provided an official launch date, given its availability in the beta version, the feature is expected to roll out soon on the stable version of the messenger app.
