WEB DESK: WhatsApp has taken decisive steps to safeguard its platform, resulting in the expulsion of approximately 7.1 million Indian accounts in April 2024.

According to media reports,the move is part of the ongoing efforts by the company to address misuse and uphold the integrity of its service.

According to the latest India Monthly Report, WhatsApp eliminated 7,182,000 accounts from April 1 to April 30, 2024. Notably, 1,302,000 of these bans were preemptive, occurring before any user complaints, showcasing WhatsApp’s proactive stance in thwarting abuse.

Employing sophisticated machine learning algorithms and data analytics, the company identifies suspicious behavioral patterns indicative of misuse.

Throughout April, the messaging platform received 10,554 user reports spanning various issues, including account support, ban appeals, product assistance, and safety concerns.

Despite the substantial volume of reports, only six accounts faced action based on these complaints, underscoring the stringent criteria for account intervention on the platform.

These bans align with WhatsApp’s commitment to adhere to the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.

These regulations mandate the release of compliance reports outlining actions taken in response to user complaints and legal violations. The latest report, issued in June 2024, underscores WhatsApp’s rigorous measures against harmful behavior, leveraging both user feedback and advanced detection systems.
