WhatsApp to end support for older iPhones next year

WEBDESK: WhatsApp has announced that starting in May 2025, it will no longer support iPhones running iOS versions older than iOS 15.1. This means users with devices on iOS 12 or earlier, like the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, will no longer be able to use the app.

Currently, WhatsApp supports iPhones running iOS 12 and above, but after the May 2025 update, a minimum of iOS 15.1 will be required to continue using the app. This gives users approximately five months to either upgrade their iPhones or back up their important messages and files.

For those with newer iPhones, they will still be able to update to iOS 15.1 or later and continue using WhatsApp without any issues.

This update is part of WhatsApp’s efforts to improve functionality and security, as older iOS versions can no longer provide the necessary support for new features.

WhatsApp’s latest beta also includes exciting updates, like QR codes for channels and a new tool for image lookups.
