WEB DESK: Meta’s Instagram Threads app is rolling out a major update to its search functionality, introducing new filters that will let users search by specific profiles and date ranges.
The feature will be deployed globally in the coming weeks. It will make it easier for users to find specific posts by narrowing search results.
Threads to compete with X, Bluesky
Previously, the search function on Threads was limited to basic keyword searches with only two sorting options: “Top” for most engaging posts and “Recent” for the latest updates. The updated search interface now includes a settings icon that allows users to filter results by “After date,” “Before date,” and “From profile.”
Threads’ search capabilities are still not as advanced as its competitor X. X offers extensive filtering options including language, keywords, and hashtags.

Nonetheless, the new update brings Threads closer to the level of Bluesky, which also supports similar search filtering.
Meta’s quick rollout of the updates is part of a broader strategy to enhance Threads and compete with rapidly growing alternatives like Bluesky. Bluesky has seen a surge in users as people migrate from X due to concerns over its direction under Elon Musk’s ownership.
Threads’ new search features add to a series of improvements that also include customisable following feeds and a more tailored algorithm.
