According to reliable sources, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has decided to introduce a new fee on all cellphone models manufactured in the country.

The sources added that during a meeting with the mobile phone manufacturers, the authority informed them of its decision. The manufacturers were told that a fee of Rs120 would be levied on each cellphone manufactured in Pakistan for type approval and COC letter issuance.

PTA took this decision to increase its revenue. Senior officials of the mobile phone manufacturers association criticised this decision.

They argued that with over 30 lakh mobile phones currently being produced in Pakistan, the PTA’s decision to levy Rs120 per cellphone is unjust to the public.
