WEB DESK: The OnePlus Open earned acclaim as one of the top foldable smartphones when it launched last year, and its successor, the OnePlus Open 2, is poised to elevate the standard even further. Leaks suggest that the upcoming device will feature a game-changing battery upgrade, setting it apart from its competitors.
According to industry insider Digital Chat Station, the OnePlus Open 2 will come equipped with a substantial 6,000 mAh battery, potentially making it the largest battery ever seen in a foldable smartphone. Scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2025, the Open 2 will be powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset, promising top-notch performance.
The impressive battery capacity is attributed to OnePlus’ collaboration with CATL on its new Glacier Battery technology. This cutting-edge silicone-carbon solution is designed to enhance efficiency, durability, and energy density. The forthcoming Ace 3 Pro will be the first device to showcase this technology, featuring a remarkable 763 Wh/L energy density, a notable 23% improvement over conventional lithium-ion batteries.

In comparison, the original OnePlus Open featured a robust 4,805 mAh battery, which provided solid performance in battery life tests against other foldable devices. However, with rapid advancements in battery technology, the OnePlus Open 2 will face stiff competition from rivals like the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro and Honor Magic V3, both of which utilize silicon-carbon batteries with capacities of 5,700 mAh and 5,150 mAh, respectively.
As the OnePlus Open 2 prepares to enter the market, it will not only bring a significant leap in battery capacity but also set a new benchmark for foldable smartphones.
