ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) has said that the internet slowdown caused by the AAE-1 submarine cable fault near Qatar has been resolved.

PTCL spokesperson said that the internet services are now fully restored and browsing is smooth.

The issue began earlier in January due to a technical fault in the AAE-1 submarine cable, which connects the country to international internet traffic. As a result, Pakistan, along with several other countries, started facing slower internet speeds.

This affected millions of users, particularly freelancers who depend heavily on stable internet connections

The internet provider added that additional bandwidth has been incorporated to minimize disruption during the recent internet issue  Meta services (WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram) are fully functional and restored with a smooth experience, the spokesperson said.

He further said that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and PTCL teams worked tirelessly to restore full connectivity.

Earlier, PTA announced that the internet service disruptions caused by a fault in the AAE-1 submarine cable in the country have been resolved after the incorporation of temporary bandwidth into the system.

The PTA further said that they have been actively monitoring the restoration efforts of the AAE-1 cable, one of the seven undersea cables connecting Pakistan to international internet traffic. The spokesperson assured that internet services have returned to normal and that the situation is under control.

Last year, Pakistan faced the same problem due to faults in submarine cables. At that time, the authorities addressed the issue by citing the use of firewalls as the reason for the slowdowns.
