Tamkenat Mansoor criticises casting strategy by TV channels

WEB DESK: Pakistani actress and digital media celebrity Tamkenat Mansoor has criticised the casting practices of television channels in the country.

In an interview with Something Haute, Mansoor said that channels prioritise actors with large social media followings over those with acting talent. This, she argued, leads to poorly acted dramas receiving high ratings.

“There is a dominance of the same faces across TV projects, films and social media projects,” Mansoor said. “Of course, when someone is seen more often, they will have a bigger following.”

The Standup Girl actress added that a large social media following does not equate to good acting ability.

“These days, if someone is famous they are hired as the lead for every project, but it’s not necessary that the same person can do every lead role,” she said.

Tamkenat also argued that channels promote melodramatic dramas over higher quality content.

“Our audience is intelligent and they like to watch quality content, but mostly these melodramatic dramas are promoted by channels,” she said. “This is why something good that is running on television never gets the attention of the audience.”
