Suspected Mpox case reported in KP

PESHAWAR: A suspected case of Monekypox (Mpox) has been reported in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, according to the Health Department. The individual, hailing from Mardan district, had recently returned from the Gulf region.

Authorities have sent a sample from the patient to the National Institute of Health (NIH) for further testing to confirm the presence of the virus. The Health Department has indicated that the patient is currently exhibiting mild symptoms.

In response to the situation, contact tracing efforts have been initiated, and additional samples are being collected from individuals who may have been in contact with the patient.

The Ministry of Health has also directed all provinces to designate focal persons specifically for mpox-related matters. Additionally, Border Health Services have been instructed to implement stringent monitoring measures at all points of entry into the country.
