Sri Lanka Women secure a historic win to claim the first Asian Women’s Championship.

In a thrilling final held in Dambulla, Sri Lanka Women clinched their maiden Asian Women’s Championship title by defeating defending champions India Women by 8 wickets.

Moreover, batting first, India Women set a target of 166 runs, with Smriti Mandhana leading the charge by scoring 60 runs. Contributions from Richa Ghosh (30) and Jemimah Rodrigues (29) helped India reach 165/6 in their 20 overs. Sri Lanka’s Kavisha Dilhari was the pick of the bowlers, taking two crucial wickets.

In response, Sri Lanka Women showcased a stellar batting performance. Harshitha Samarawickrama scored an unbeaten 69 runs, while Kavisha Dilhari remained not out with 30 runs, guiding their team to victory in the 19th over with just 2 wickets down.

This historic win marks Sri Lanka Women’s first triumph in the Asian Women’s Cup, breaking India’s long-standing dominance of 7 titles.
