Former Pakistan cricket captain Younis Khan has advised Babar Azam to prioritise his cricket performance rather than focusing on captaincy.

Speaking to the media in Karachi, Khan highlighted that Babar Azam should concentrate on improving his performance, noting that despite his young age, Babar Azam has already achieved several milestones and has the potential to score up to 15,000 runs in Test cricket. He described captaincy as a minor issue in comparison.

Khan cited Virat Kohli as an example, urging Azam to let his bat respond to critics. He remarked that while performance should be the primary focus, modern cricketers tend to talk more and play less. Khan encouraged players to use social media but to keep their primary focus on their performance.

On a lighter note, Khan shared an interesting reason behind his decision to shave his mustache, adding that in Pakistan, it’s common for those who listen but lack leadership skills to be made captains, while those who are truly deserving but unwilling to conform are sidelined. He questioned how long this practice would continue.

Khan also criticised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for its lack of understanding of its own importance, accusing it of making hasty decisions.

He praised Mohsin Naqvi as a good person who wants the best for cricket but emphasised that the surrounding individuals should also be competent. He lamented that even a vegetable vendor seems to know who should be the captain or coach better than the PCB officials.

Additionally, Khan revealed that he has been invited by Australia for domestic cricket engagements. He expressed frustration with the common statement by coaches regarding a player’s future plans, pointing out that when his own coaches deemed him not part of their future plans, it undermined their credibility in deciding the future of players.
