Former Pakistan cricket captain Wasim Akram has turned down an offer to join the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as either Chief Executive Officer (CEO) or advisor to the Chairman.
The PCB, under scrutiny for its cricket management, sought Akram to address concerns about its administration.
Moreover, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as the Federal Minister of Interior, has faced criticism for not focusing solely on cricket due to his dual roles. In response, Naqvi approached Akram with the offer, requiring a full-time commitment and relocation to Lahore.
Akram, based in Karachi and frequently traveling to Australia, cited his inability to relocate as the reason for his decision. Despite declining the role, he offered to support Pakistan cricket voluntarily.

Following Akram’s refusal, the PCB is now considering former cricketer Waqar Younis for the position. Younis, currently residing in Australia, has expressed willingness to move to Lahore and engage with the PCB. He met with Naqvi recently to discuss the role, but no official appointment has been announced.
The current PCB constitution does not include a CEO position, but amendments may be considered to accommodate the role if necessary. Both Akram and Younis have faced scrutiny in the past related to the Justice Qayyum report on match-fixing.
