WEB DESK: Bangladesh’s star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been banned from bowling in competitions organised by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). The suspension follows an assessment that revealed his elbow extension exceeds the permitted 15-degree limit for bowlers.

The 37-year-old’s bowling action came under scrutiny during a single appearance for Surrey in September, his first County Championship match since the 2010-11 season. On-field umpires flagged concerns about his action, prompting an independent test.

“Shakib Al Hasan completed an independent assessment at Loughborough University earlier this month. It confirmed his elbow extension exceeded the 15-degree threshold,” the ECB said in a statement. The ban took effect on December 10 following the receipt of the assessment results.

To lift the suspension, Shakib must undergo a reassessment and prove his bowling action complies with the regulations.
