WEBDESK: Former captain Shahid Afridi on Thursday urged the International Cricket Council (ICC) to assert its authority on the Champions Trophy venue and accused the BCCI of placing international cricket in a precarious position after they refused to play in Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy.

In a post shared on Facebook, Shahid Afridi posted a picture of the ICC trophy with the caption “By intertwining politics with sports, the BCCI has placed international cricket in a precarious position. Fully support the PCB’s stance against the hybrid model – especially since Pakistan (despite security concerns) has toured India five times, including a bilateral white-ball series, post-26/11. It’s time for the ICC and its Board of Directors to uphold fairness and assert their authority”

Earlier today The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) clarified its position on the Champions Trophy 2025 venue issue to the ICC, saying that holding matches with India at a neutral venue under a hybrid model is not acceptable.

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, also stated, “It’s unacceptable for us to play in India if they refuse to play in Pakistan. Any decision will be based on equality and in the best interest of Pakistan cricket.”
