LAHORE: The International Cricket Council released the nominees for the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year award but no Pakistani has made it to the list.

Four cricketers including England’s prolific batsman Joe Root have been nominated for the prestigious award for producing top-notch performances in 2024.

According to the ICC press release, India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, Sri Lanka’s dynamic all-rounder Kusal Mendis, and England’s rising star Harry Brook also shortlisted for the ICC Men’s Test Player of the Year 2024.

Joe Root’s consistent performances and mastery in the longest format have earned him a spot on this prestigious list.

Featuring across 13 Tests in the calendar year, Jasprit Bumrah delivered his best-ever annual tally – 71 wickets – finishing the year with more Test wickets than any of his counterparts, the ICC press release stated.

In the absence of full-time skipper Rohit Sharma, Bumrah lead India in first Test match against Australia and guided the visitors to a mammoth 295-run win in Perth.

Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis, known for his all-round contributions, and England’s Harry Brook, who has quickly risen through the ranks with his stellar performances, complete the list of nominees.

The ICC Awards 2024 aim to recognise outstanding contributions to Test cricket over the year. The final winner will be announced in a much anticipated ceremony.

the ICC press release stated that Babar Azam joins Australia’s Travis Head, Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza, and Indian bowler Arshdeep Singh for ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year.
