ISLAMABAD: Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has announced retirement from international cricket, a day after all-rounder Imad Wasim retired from cricket.

The left-arm speedster, who last played for Pakistan in a T20I at Lauderhill against Ireland in June 2024, announced re-retirement from international cricket.

Left-arm quick Amir retired from international cricket in December 2020 but later made himself available for selection to Pakistan for the upcoming T20 World Cup that starts on June 1 in the USA and the West Indies.

In a statement, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed Amir’s retirement and expressed deep gratitude and pride in representing Pakistan at the highest level.

“It has been a great honour to play for Pakistan across all three formats. I know this is a difficult decision, but I feel this is the right time for the next generation to take the baton and elevate Pakistan cricket to new heights,” said Amir.

The 32-year-old Amir, who represented Pakistan in 36 Tests, 61 ODIs, and 62 T20Is matches, claimed 271 international wickets across formats.

He played his last Test match for the home side against South Africa in January 2019, while his last appearance in ODI was against Sri Lanka in Karachi in October 2019.

“I would like to thank the PCB for always extending the much-needed support over the years, and I look forward to watching the team excel. I would also like to thank Pakistan fans for always supporting me throughout my career,” he said.

Yesterday, Pakistan’s all-rounder Imad Wasim announced his retirement from international cricket.
