Lahore Fort lights up for Champions Trophy

A grand opening ceremony for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy 2025 was held at the historic Diwan-e-Aam of the Lahore Fort on Sunday night.

Addressing the ceremony, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi stated that the entire cricket community is keenly monitoring Pakistan’s preparations for the tournament.

He characterised hosting the tournament as a “great honour” for his country. Naqvi further underlined that the Gaddafi and National stadiums were renovated in record time to ensure a successful event.

The chairman reaffirmed the PCB‘s commitment to displaying Pakistan’s rich culture and hospitality to the world, stating that the tournament will reflect the warmth and affection of the Pakistani people.

Upcoming Champions Trophy matches

The tournament will begin on February 19 (Wednesday) with Pakistan and New Zealand playing their first match in the port city following a brief ceremony at the National Bank Cricket Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Indian team has landed in Dubai, where Bangladesh is already preparing for the huge event. The two teams will meet off in the competition on February 20.

Before that, the Tigers will face Pakistan’s Shaheens in a practice match on February 17.

The most anticipated match, as always, will be the high-stakes clash between archrivals Pakistan and India, which will take place in Dubai on February 23.
