Karachi hosts marathon with 4,000 participants

KARACHI: Over 4,000 people participated in the Karachi Marathon 2025 held on Sunday. The world athletics-certified Marathon was held at the Sea View’s Nishan-e-Pakistan monument.

The event, accredited by World Athletics, featured runners from various countries, including Germany, Poland, and Japan.

The marathon included five categories: Full Marathon (42.195km), Half-Marathon (21.1km), Relay Marathon (42.2km split among four runners), and the 5km Fun Run. Organisers said the certification ensured a world-class experience for participants.

“We are thrilled by the success of the Karachi Marathon,” said Shoaib Nizami, CEO of Sports in Pakistan. He praised Karachi’s resilience and thanked participants, sponsors, and partners for their support.

Winners:

Marathon (42.195km)

  • Men’s 1st Prize: Israr Muhammad (Pakistan), 2:30:13 – Rs. 500,000
  • Men’s 2nd Prize: Muhammad Riaz (Pakistan), 2:32:13 – Rs. 250,000
  • Women’s 1st Prize: Enub Khan (Pakistan), 3:47:49 – Rs. 500,000
  • Women’s 2nd Prize: Zeba Shah Abbasi (Pakistan), 4:01:13 – Rs. 250,000

Half-Marathon (21.1km)

  • Men’s 1st Prize: Muhammad Ajhtar (Pakistan), 1:12:08 – Rs. 50,000
  • Men’s 2nd Prize: Qasim Bajwa (Pakistan), 1:12:52 – Rs. 40,000
  • Women’s 1st Prize: Mumtaz Naimat (Pakistan), 1:43:26 – Rs. 50,000
  • Women’s 2nd Prize: Dua Nazakat (Pakistan), 1:51:45 – Rs. 40,000

This was Karachi’s second World Athletics-certified marathon. The first, held in January 2024, also drew hundreds of participants.
