KABUL: The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has granted a one-year extension to Jonathan Trott to continue as Afghanistan’s head coach until the end of 2025.
Trott’s extension comes a few months before next year’s Champions Trophy, where Afghanistan will make its first appearance.
“The Afghanistan Cricket Board wishes Trott the best of luck for his next year’s stint with Afghan Atalan as he strives to elevate Afghanistan cricket further on the global stage,” the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) said in a statement.
The country’s cricket board said that Trott has been highly rated during his two-and-a-half-year tenure.
Trott’s guidance seemed essential in Afghanistan’s winning the first-ever semi-final of the Twenty20 World Cup early this year.
The previous year, the team had a record of notable victories over former champions England, Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the ODI World Cup.

The tournament’s performance to finish in the top eight ensured the team would play their first Champions Trophy next year.
Trott, along with his team, will be on ODI matches of their multi-format tour in Zimbabwe this month.
However, he will miss the remaining fixtures due to personal reasons, with Hamid Hassan stepping in as the interim coach during his absence.
