KARACHI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has slapped Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi, batsman Saud Shakeel, and substitute Kamran Ghulam for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the third match of ongoing tri-nation series in Karachi.

The ICC announced the punishments a day after Pakistan chased down a highest-ever 353-run target in 49 overs to secure a spot in Saturday’s final against South Africa, achieving their highest-ever successful run chase in ODIs.

According to the ICC, Shaheen Afridi was slapped with a 25% fine of his match fee.Saud Shakeel and Kamran Ghulam were fined 10% each. All three players also received one demerit point.

The controversy erupted during Pakistan’s match against South Africa. Tensions flared between players on both sides.

In the 28th over, South African batter Matthew Breetzke attempted a quick single and collided with Shaheen Afridi. Shaheen reacted aggressively and exchanged words with Breetzke.

In the next over, Saud Shakeel and Kamran Ghulam celebrated aggressively after running out South African captain Temba Bavuma. Kamran confronted Bavuma, while Shakeel blocked his path and shouted.

The ICC stated that Shaheen Afridi deliberately obstructed Breetzke, made inappropriate body contact, and argued with him. The ICC also found Shakeel and Ghulam’s celebrations excessive and confrontational.

The tri-nation series has seen rising tensions. The ICC has taken strict action to maintain discipline on the field.
