DUBAI: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Dubai for the International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting to discuss a new partnership formula for the Champions Trophy.
The ICC meeting is scheduled to take place here on Thursday.
According to details, the meeting’s agenda, however, is not going to be the eight-team tournament but to welcome the newly elected ICC chairman, who took over the duties from Sunday the new BCCI Secretary Jay Shah.
Sources, however, revealed that the meeting scheduled to take place at 8pm (Gulf Standard Time) may witness discussions on the prestigious tournament as well.
Mohsin Naqvi, PCB chairman, arrived for the meeting on Thursday morning.
It is worth mentioning that the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has been hanging in the air after the Indian Board announced that it will not send its team to Pakistan, while PCB stood firm on opposing the hybrid model for the eight teams.
However, the latest news is that the Pakistan “partnership formula” is being considered to clear the deadlock between PCB and BCCI.
Under this new formula, Pakistan will also not play their matches in India during ICC events for the next three years. Dubai is likely to be a neutral venue for both the teams as per the expected new agreement.
During this period, India is slated to host three events from the ICC, including the Women’s World Cup 2025, co-hosting of T20 World Cup 2026 with Sri Lanka, and Champions Trophy 2027.
Further details shared that the apex cricketing body has advised the BCCI to consider these model propositions to keep Pakistan out of legal action and, ideally, out of voting.
If the proposed formula gets mutually agreed upon then there may not be a need for the board meeting and the apex cricketing body will communicate the development with the board members.
