WEBDESK: The Everton vs. Liverpool game ended in a 2-2 draw at the last Merseyside derby at Goodison Park after James Tarkowski’s last-minute goal.
The Everton fans celebrated the goal with pure joy, but so will Arsenal fans, who can now hope to catch Liverpool at the top of the championship table.
With each team now playing 24 games, Liverpool’s lead at the top has been cut to 7 points only.
Liverpool were leading the game for most of the match thanks to goals from Alexis Macallister and Mohammed Salah.
Beto scored for Everton in the 11th minute before James Tarkowski added a second in extra time to earn a point for his team.
After a long Video Assistant Referee (VAR) check, the goal was awarded.
The match ended as a fight erupted between the two sides after Abdoulaye Doucoure taunted the Liverpool fans. This annoyed Liverpool player Curtis Jones and caused a fight between the two players that ended with both of them receiving red cards.
Liverpool coach Arne Slot and assistant Sipke Hulshoff also received red cards for their behaviour against referee Michael Oliver.
Everton Manager David Moyes said: “It was mayhem all game. A bit of a throwback. The place was boiling hot all night. It was an incredible atmosphere.”
Everton fans will feel especially happy knowing that it was the last Merseyside derby at Goodison Park before they move to their new stadium.
