ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan opener Ahmad Shahzad has weighed in on the criticism faced by Pakistani wicket-keeper Azam Khan, urging for constructive feedback without resorting to body shaming.

Azam Khan, son of legendary cricketer Moin Khan, has been under scrutiny for his performance and physical fitness, particularly following Pakistan’s recent T20 series against England, Ireland, and the ongoing World Cup match against the United States.

Shahzad emphasised that while it’s everyone’s right to comment on a player’s performance, criticism should be constructive and respectful.

“It’s not an individual’s fault but the responsibility of the entire team,” Shahzad remarked regarding Pakistan’s performance in the World Cup, where Azam Khan was dropped from the playing XI after consecutive matches.

In Pakistan’s opening World Cup match against the United States, Azam Khan failed to score.

Last week, batsman Imam Ul Haq defended Azam amid social media trolling, noting its detrimental effect on a player’s morale and performance.

Since his international debut in July 2018, Azam has struggled to establish himself in Pakistan’s T20I squad, managing just 88 runs in over 14 innings. His performance and fitness have been subject to significant criticism.

The discussion surrounding Azam Khan reflects ongoing debates over the treatment of athletes in the public eye, particularly on social media platforms.
