COLOMBO: The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has unveiled plans for a new tri-series featuring Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), alongside proposed A team tours to Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. This announcement comes as ACB Chairman Mirwais Ashraf and CEO Naseeb Khan attended the International Cricket Council (ICC) annual Board Meeting in Colombo.
During the ICC meeting, which convened this week with representatives from various member countries, Ashraf and Khan outlined the ACB’s recent achievements, ongoing activities, and strategic plans for the future. The Afghanistan Cricket Board leadership also engaged in discussions with officials from Cricket South Africa, Cricket New Zealand, and Cricket West Indies regarding potential white-ball series ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
In addition to exploring bilateral white-ball series, the ACB proposed a youth tri-series involving Pakistan and the UAE. Dates and venues for this tri-series are yet to be confirmed. The ACB’s proposal also includes the A team tours to Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, further highlighting Afghanistan’s commitment to expanding its cricketing engagements.

The ICC leadership and meeting participants lauded the ACB and Afghanistan’s national team, the AfghanAtalan, for their stellar performances in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The AfghanAtalan’s remarkable journey to the semi-finals—marking their first-ever last-four qualification in an ICC event—was particularly noted. Despite a semi-final loss to South Africa, the team’s aggressive play and significant contributions to the global cricketing arena were recognized as a testament to their growing prowess and the development of cricket in Afghanistan.
