The Sindh government has made it mandatory for candidates aspiring to become chairpersons, controllers, secretaries, and audit officers in the province’s educational boards to pass a test conducted by IBA Karachi.

The decision was made following a proposal by the Department of Boards and Universities, aiming to implement a transparent hiring process. The Secretary of Boards and Universities, Abbas Baloch, has sent a summary to the Sindh Chief Minister, recommending this new testing requirement for key positions in Sindh’s educational boards.

According to the summary, a previous proposal from November 2023 had already sought approval for filling vacant posts, including the chairman, controller of examinations, secretary, and audit officer. However, legal challenges were raised against these appointments, with several petitions filed in the Sindh High Court.

The Sindh High Court has now lifted the stay orders, allowing the Department of Boards and Universities to proceed with appointments through the search committee as per the 2022 act. The competitive exam, to be administered by IBA Karachi, will ensure that only qualified candidates advance to the interview stage.

The Chairman of the Sindh Higher Education Commission, while speaking to the media, said that with over 200 candidates vying for these positions, the decision to hold a test was made to streamline the selection process and maintain merit.
