In a recent press conference in Islamabad, Senator Irfan Siddiqui of the Pakistan Muslim League (N) expressed significant concerns regarding the judiciary’s role in constitutional amendments.
He argued that while the judiciary has a corrective role, it must adhere strictly to the Constitution, questioning, “If the judiciary makes a decision contrary to the Constitution, who rectifies it?”
Siddiqui highlighted that the Constitution allows independent members to join a party within three days, highlighting that deviations from this timeline by the judiciary raise serious questions about adherence to legal frameworks. He stated, “When you do not uphold the Constitution, where do we turn?”

The senator also addressed the issue of pending appeals regarding reserved seats in Parliament, lamenting that they have not yet been scheduled for hearing.
Moreover, he stressed that many provisions of the Constitution have become ineffective due to judicial overreach. “The Constitution states that no constitutional amendment made in Parliament can be challenged in court, so how is this possible?” he questioned.
