The school timings in Lahore have been changed due to the poor Air Quality Index (AQI) and the upcoming smog season.
According to the notification issued on Wednesday, schools across the provincial capital will open from 8:45am to 2:45pm on weekdays. On Fridays, the school will end at 1:45pm.
The school timings have been changed for the next three months and will be effective from October 28 to January 31, 2025.
The Punjab Environment Protection Department has issued directives to the relevant authorities to take necessary measures in light of the increase in air pollution.
Smog situation in Lahore
Smog has become a major problem for Punjab, especially Lahore, in recent years due to increasing air pollution. This year too, Lahore has been consistently ranked as the most polluted city in the world for the past three days, with the AQI level reaching over 400.
Due to the smog season, the Punjab government had to announce holidays in the schools, colleges, and universities of the province last year. However, this year, no holidays have been announced in Lahore or any other cities in Punjab.
